Travel: Wine Tasting Tour with Korcula Explorer

Croatian Wine Tasting Tour with Korcula Explorer

Danke nochmal an Rachael! :-)

Today I wanna talk about another wonderful day on Korcula. During our holiday it was Dominik’s birthday. We’ve been in Dubrovnik that day and I gifted him the voucher for a „Wine Tasting & Walking Tour in Lumbarda“. I took notice of Korcula Explorer before our trip via TripAdvisor. The amount of great feedbacks and comments and the professionell web presence convinced me at once. The mail communication with Rachael was fine, too. She is a young british woman who came to Korcula with her husband five years ago. They both founded Korcula Explorer and offer many different tours.

Getting to know each other

I have to admit that I was a bit nervous first, because I knew that I will have to talk in English the whole time. For Dominik this isn’t a big deal, because he has to talk in English every day for his job. I always struggle a bit first, because I’ve no routine in talking English. Do you know that?

I became even more nervous, when I realized, who will do the tour with us. There was Rachael herself, her mother, who was on a visit, and a young couple from Australia! They were on a long honeymoon trip through Europe…

Little hiking tour

First of all we drove from Korcula town to Lumbarda. There we walked along the countryside a bit and Rachael told us some interesting things about the island, the country and the Croatians themselves.

First stop

Afterwards we arrived at the first littler vinery. On the terrace a nicely decorated table was waiting for us. Apart from a fresh rosé wine, a red wine and a delicious cherry liquor at the end, we tasted the Grk. Grk is the most famous white wine of the island and every little vineyard is producing it. So, there are really big differences between quality and taste. In general, Grk is a fresh wine with some bitter aftertaste. You really don’t note the up to 14 volume percent.

We had yummy ham, cheese, olives, cucumber salad and sardines with the wine. So, what can I say: With every glass of wine, everyone was getting more and more relaxed and talking in English became easier for me. ;-)

Second stop

After that we only had to walk a few hundred meters to the other winery. It’s managed by a very young and pleasant couple. We had a long table for us with a nice view over the landscape.

Wine and bbq

Here we had many wines, too. Even the house wine which came in carafes wasn’t bad at all. The Grk was even better than it was at the first stop – well-balanced and fresh.

Rachael asked me what we wanna eat – fish or meat – in advance. I ordered both, so that we could taste from each other. Both was very tasty and we had the typical Croatian mix of chard and potatoes.

Sparkling ending

As you can see, we had a lot of fun. A little bit tipsy we walked to the harbor. Here, a little boat was waiting for us, because we drove back to Korcula city by boat which was really romantic. On board we enjoyed sparkling wine and some sweets like candied orange zests. Sooo good!

I can absolutely recommend a tour with Kocula Explorer! We had some great hours together. Thanks again, Rachael! :-)
