French Style – Warum das Breton-Shirt immer eine gute Idee ist

Das erste Outfit, das ich aus Paris mitgebracht habe, könnte französischer fast nicht sein. Nicht nur, dass ich ein Breton-Shirt trage, nein, es ziert auch noch ein Paris-Schriftzug. Dem Breton-Shirt möchte ich daher auch diesen Post widmen.

Warum das Breton-Shirt nie aus der Mode kommt

Das Breton-Shirt, also das klassische Streifenshirt oder auch Ringelshirt genannt, verbinden wohl die meisten mit dem typisch französischen Stil. Jedes Jahr aufs Neue schmückt es spätestens zur Sommersaison die Modehäuser weltweit. Doch warum ist das eigentlich so und wie ist der zeitlose Trend entstanden?

Salonfähig wurde das maritime Shirt durch – natürlich – Coco Chanel! Sie integrierte es schon 1913 in ihre Kollektion und löste damit sogar eine kleine Revolution aus. Bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt war das Breton-Shirt nämlich den französischen, männlichen Fischern. Bis heute sieht man die Streifenshirts immer wieder auf den Laufstegen bei Chanel – sie zählen wie der Tweed und die Perlenketten zu den absoluten Klassikern des Modehauses. Es ist also kein Zufall, dass ich zu dem Look meine Chanel Boy Bag kombiniert habe. Aber auch andere große Modehäuser haben das Top zu ihrem Markenzeichen gemacht, darunter Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent oder Balmain.

Wie kombiniert man das Breton-Shirt im Sommer 2019?

Jede Sommersaison steht das Breton-Shirt für eine lässige Eleganz. Immer passend sind Jeanslooks wie auch hier bei mir. Ich habe zu einer bequemen und unaufgeregten Culotte aus Jeansstoff gegriffen um den typischen French Style noch zu unterstreichen. Das Shirt lässt sich diese Saison aber auch hervorragend mit z.B. Satinröcken in Leo-Optik oder mit Blumenmustern kombinieren. Mit Riemchensandaletten und Paillettenrock wird das Shirt sogar abendtauglich. Genauso funktionieren weite, weiße Hosen oder weitschwingende Röcke.

Why the Breton shirt never goes out of fashion

Most people associate the Breton shirt, the classic striped shirt, with the typical French style. Every year, at the latest by the summer season, it adorns fashion houses all over the world. But why is this so and how did the timeless trend emerge?

The maritime shirt was made socially acceptable by – of course – Coco Chanel! She already integrated it into her collection in 1913 and even triggered a small revolution. Up to this point, the Breton shirt had been the favorite of French male fishermen. Until today you can see the striped shirts again and again on the catwalks at Chanel – like the tweed and the pearl necklaces they belong to the absolute classics of the fashion house. So it’s no coincidence that I combined my Chanel Boy Bag with this look. But other big fashion houses have also made the striped top their trademark, including Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent and Balmain.

How do you combine the Breton shirt in summer 2019?

Every summer season, the Breton shirt stands for casual elegance. Jeanslooks are always suitable, just like here with me. I have chosen a comfortable and unagitated culotte made of denim fabric to underline the typical French style. This season the shirt can also be combined with satin skirts in leo-look or with flower patterns. With strappy sandals and sequin skirt, the shirt is even suitable for evening wear. Wide white pants or wide swinging skirts work just as well.
